Back-to-back waddle-off wins for Long Island

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 20, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Camden Riversharks 4-3 on Saturday night before a past-capacity crowd of 6,310 at Bethpage Ballpark.

Camden scored the first run of the game when Burt Reynolds scored on an error in the third inning. Long Island took the lead in the fifth when Josh Barfield hit an RBI single to center and Bill Hall drove in a run with a double to right. Camden tied the game at two in the seventh inning on a run-scoring passed ball.

It stayed tied until the top of the ninth inning when a Billy Rice RBI single gave the Riversharks a 3-2 lead. However, in the bottom of the ninth Barfield tied the game with an RBI single, and Joash Brodin scored on a wild pitch two batters later to win the game.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Camden starter Joey Williamson threw five innings, giving up two runs on six hits, and Long Island starter Dontrelle Willis allowed five hits and two runs (one earned) in eight innings of work. Jared Lansford (4-1) picked up the win despite allowing one run on two hits in one inning of work while Jon Velasquez (3-2) suffered the loss, letting up two runs on two hits in two-thirds of an inning.

Ralph Henriquez and Barfield led the Ducks with two hits, and Barfield drove in two runs for Long Island.

The Ducks and Riversharks wrap up their four-game set on Sunday evening. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 4:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Yellow and Navy Baseballs, courtesy of Yellow Dog Lawn Care. It’s also a Sunday Family Funday at the ballpark! Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks. After the game, kids and kids at heart can take part in Kids Run the Bases, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Duck Tales: The waddle-off win was the fifth of the season for the Ducks and the third involving Joash Brodin. He picked up a walk-off hit in game two of a doubleheader on June 9 against Southern Maryland and hit a walk-off grand slam Friday night against Camden…With his single in the fifth inning, Brodin now has hits in six straight games and in seven of his last eight…With two singles, Ralph Henriquez recorded his eighth two-hit game of the season and ninth multi-hit game overall. Four of the eight two-hit games have come in his last eight appearances…Josh Barfield’s pair of singles gives him 11 two-hit games on the season and 16 multi-hit games overall. He also picked up his fifth two-RBI game and sixth multi-RBI game on the season…In eight innings, Dontrelle Willis gave up just one earned run, lowering his ERA to 2.57,allowing him to take over the league lead…The attendance of 6,310 marked the seventh past-capacity crowd of the season at Bethpage Ballpark.
