– The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 8-3 Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

The Ducks struck the first blow as Vladimir Frias launched a two-run home run to left in the top of the second. The Patriots responded in the home half of the fourth with a four-run inning. The frame was highlighted by a couple of run scoring wild pitches, an RBI single from Justin Pacchioli and a bases loaded walk drawn by Alfredo Rodriguez.

However, in the sixth Somerset had back-to-back sacrifice flies by Ramon Flores and Rodriguez. The Patriots added two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings after Will Kengor lifted a solo home run to center and Rodriguez hit an RBI double respectively, totaling their lead at 8-3.

Roy Merritt (3-3) picked up the win for Somerset after tossing five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters. Kevin McAvoy (0-4) was tagged with the loss after pitching three and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
