Right-hander joins CPBL

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 16, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks today announced the contract of right-handed pitcher Travis Banwart has been purchased by the Fubon Guardians of the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan. Banwart becomes the 12th member of the 2019 Ducks roster to have his contract purchased by a Major League or foreign organization, seven of which have joined an MLB club.

Banwart made six starts as a member of the Ducks. He compiled an impressive 3-1 record with a 1.91 ERA and 36 strikeouts. In 36 innings of work, the 33-year-old allowed just nine runs (eight earned) on 26 hits and 10 walks. Opponents compiled a miniscule .200 batting average against the righty. The Wichita, Kan. native struck out 11 batters in his Ducks debut on June 9 against the High Point Rockers. He allowed three runs or less in each of his six starts and won three consecutive starts from June 14-25.
